Description

Faculty members Myra Melford (piano) and Ben Goldberg (clarinet), in collaboration with bassist Michael Formanek (ECM recording artist) and drummer Hamir Atwal (Tune Yards), present original compositions for improvising quartet. Melford and Goldberg, whose duet album DIALOGUE was described by the New York Times as “a complete entity unto itself,” are looking forward to working with Formanek, one of the foremost bassists of our times, and Atwal, a drummer of infinite resource and swing. An opening set will be performed by students in MU165: The Berkeley Nu Jazz Collective, performing works by Goldberg, Formanek, Melford and others.
