Description

An adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s controversial play, Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s groundbreaking Spring Awakening features a brilliant rock score and searingly emotional book that transport the classic story of sexual awakening and self-discovery into a new century. In 1891 provincial Germany, a group of students struggle to navigate the stringent expectations of society as the world around them begins to morph through the distorting prism of puberty. Duncan Sheik’s haunting melodies allow us unrestricted access to his characters’ anxious souls, resulting in a powerful celebration of youth and rebellion. Winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening is an electrifying fusion of morality, sexuality and rock & roll that explores the journey from adolescence to adulthood with poignancy, passion, and the resonant assertion that shame is nothing but a product of education.
