Sometimes fairytale endings aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. In this 1987 Sondheim classic, we see the stories of our favorite fairytale characters unfold and intertwine, creating a world closer to the original Brothers Grimm than many are used to. The Baker and his Wife, Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel, Jack, and their families encounter the joys and sorrows of happily ever after. Our heroes (and villains) confront age-old dilemmas surrounding love, family, and responsibility, not all of them surviving to find answers. This poignant dark comedy delivers laughs, tears, and shock in equal measure, and reminds us all to be careful what we wish for.

The above directions require patrons to go down a couple sets of stairs to enter the theater. If you have a mobility-related access need, you can enter the building through the Lower Sproul Parking Garage on Bancroft Way and Dana Street. Turn left to reach the white wall with two sets of double doors with a ramp to their right. The left-most double doors will be labeled with a BareStage sign, but the doors require key card access to enter the building.
